Why Sea Salt Stay

Samui, at the speed it actually moves.

Nathon is the working town on the west coast. Local prices, a night market that locals eat at, and the only side of the island where the sun goes down into the water rather than behind a hill.

Khao yam, the Southern rice salad, with grilled salmon at Krua Savoey

Your host cooks

Krua Savoey is 10 steps from your door and holds 4.3 from 790 reviews. The person who runs the kitchen runs the rooms.

Nathon town and the ferry piers from the air

Walk to the boat

Koh Phangan in about 30 minutes, Koh Tao in two hours, the mainland in one. Everyone else pays for a taxi across the island first.

Sunset over the shallow water at Nathon Beach

The sunset side

Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut all face east or north. Nathon faces the sunset, and Room 01 has a terrace pointed straight at it.

The rooms

Four rooms, and no two are the same.

Brass in one, black in another. A checkerboard floor here, a sage panelled wall there. Most small properties build one room and repeat it. This one did not.

Deluxe Room with Sea View, bed facing the terrace and the sunset

Deluxe Room with Sea View

40 sqmKing bed2 guestsPrivate terrace

The only room with the sunset. A private terrace with deck chairs, facing west across the road to the water. King bed with a rattan headboard, a walk-in shower tiled in blue green with a brass rain head, and a fridge, microwave and proper cups and plates.

Being in the middle of town is why the pier is eight minutes away. The days come with some town noise.

Family Room with Garden View

Really an apartment. Two separate bedrooms, one double and one twin, a living room, a dining table for four, and a real kitchen with an induction hob. Sliding doors open onto the garden, and the bathroom splits the basin, shower and toilet.

Garden view rather than sea. Town side, so the days come with some town noise.

Deluxe Room

A kitchenette built into a tiled peninsula, with a proper sink, fridge, microwave and glasses on open shelves. Same size as our sea view room. King bed with a long sofa at the foot of it, and a dressing corner with a full length mirror.

Trades the sea view for the kitchen. Town side, so the days come with some town noise.

Superior Room with sitting area and the bed on a raised platform

Superior Room

Our smallest, and the one that surprises people. Two spaces in twenty five square metres: a sitting area with a sofa and window seat, then a step up to the bed against a pale sage panelled wall. Brass rain shower behind a sliding plank door.

No sea view. Same restaurant next door, same eight minutes to the pier, and our lowest rate.

Four rooms means they go quickly.

10 steps from your door

Open since 1989. The rooms came later.

Krua Savoey opened in Nathon in 1989 and has been feeding the town ever since. The four rooms were built beside it.

The cooking is Southern, which on Samui means khao yam, a rice salad built from toasted coconut, lemongrass, shredded kaffir lime leaf, long beans and pickled vegetables, with the dressing poured at the table. Or ho mok talay, seafood steamed with curry and coconut and opened in front of you. There is a Western menu too, for when the table cannot agree.

Tables face the water. Open from nine in the morning, which is also the answer to where you have breakfast.

Good to know

Questions, answered straight.

Is breakfast included?

No, we do not serve breakfast. Krua Savoey next door opens at nine. Pratthana Kafae is six minutes away and opens at seven, and the 7-Eleven is four minutes away and never closes.

Can we swim at the beach in front?

Nathon Beach is shallow and calm, which makes it good for sunset walks and wading rather than swimming. If you want to swim properly, Chaweng and Lamai are about half an hour by car.

Is it noisy?

We sit in the middle of town on the coastal road, so you will hear some traffic during the day. That same position is why the pier, the night market and seven good restaurants are all a few minutes on foot.

Which rooms have a sea view?

Only Room 01, our Deluxe Room with Sea View, which has a private terrace facing west across the road to the water. The other three look onto the town or the garden.

How far is the ferry pier?

Nathon Pier is eight minutes on foot. From there it is about 30 to 45 minutes to Koh Phangan, around two hours to Koh Tao, and one to one and a half hours to the mainland.

Is there parking?

Yes, free parking on site.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is from 3:00 PM and check out is by 11:00 AM.

Come and take Samui slowly.

Four rooms, one kitchen, and the sun going down in front of you. Book direct and you are dealing with the people who actually run the place.
